Of course, that’s not actually what he would say. Merlin wasn’t really sure what the hell he would say, but he knew it was better to think about it than the fact that his king wasn’t here with him now. Thinking about how he could be here. Can be. Will be. Not that, when it boils down to it, he just isn't.
Because that’s what makes it so unbearable, isn’t it?
