Summary
Jason Todd is dead and Bruce is still grieving when an alternate Bruce Wayne from a different dimension opens a gateway into his house. The alternate’s intentions seem benign, but while Bruce is in his manor he comes across that universe’s Jason, frightened and bruised.
Bruce takes him home but he has no idea what his alternate has truly put Jason through and for his alternate son he’s only traded one captor for another. Jason only sees one way out of the hell he’s in. Someone his old universe doesn’t have. Someone who’ll save anyone, no matter how broken they are.
Somehow he needs to find Batman.

Summary
The ringtone lets Bruce know before he’s even pulled the phone out that someone in his family is calling from a civilian line, which—given the current hour—should mean Alfred is calling. The caller ID displays Tim Drake instead.
Threads of concern and apprehension coil through him, but it’s possible—something prevented Tim from heading out with Dick tonight. If he were sick, or injured, Alfred would have let him know already, but it’s possible something came up with school or his friends. Dick would be just fine handling a solo night in the Batman suit.
There’s no proof that anything is wrong yet. Bruce takes a steady breath and accepts the call. “Hey, Tim,” he says as he unlocks his car. “I’m—”
“Sorry,” a mechanized voice cuts in, and Bruce goes still, fingers curled around the driver door handle. “Tim’s not available right now.”

Summary
In a beat, Bruce is on the roof next to Jason, his son’s head firmly grasped in his hands and pinned against his thighs, the fingers of his right hand splayed - stretched and placed oddly along the boy’s cheek and jaw.
Instinctively, Jason lashes out in surprise with a yelp, thrashing in Bruce’s grip and trying to get himself out of the man’s fucking lap, “What th-”
“Jay, don’t move.”
It’s the nickname and the breathless, desperate way Bruce says it more than the command itself that has Jason stilling in his arms. Well, his body stilling. For all his thrashing and writhing he didn’t actually manage to move his head at all from where Bruce has it immobilized in a death grip against his thighs.
“Okay,” Jason breathes, honestly too concussed at the moment to try to figure this one out on his own, “Bruce?”

Summary
It’s not that Jason’s suicidal, exactly. It’s just that he can appreciate the symmetry of it all.
After all, it was Jason who was always begging Bruce to break that golden rule. To do it for him.
And now, look! Exactly what he asked for, in the universe’s twisted, ironic package. Jason’s got a sense of humor. He can appreciate that for what it is.
That’s why he lets his fists fall to the side while Bruce is beating him to death.

Summary
The only thing that has brought on the slightest relief since Bruce first did this to Jason was the Joker’s toxin. It washed every last dredge of fear away and left only amusement in its place. For the first time in a long time, Jason could breathe. But there are a million reasons why Jason would have to be a complete idiot to utilize that method again.
Even that mild dose the Joker gave him was more than enough to have Jason feeling invincible. No fear, no hang-ups. He felt immortal—and even if he did end up bleeding, the pain was too fucking funny to worry about. He’d never felt so free in his life.
Jason nearly asked the clown for an extra dose for the road, but he knows better than anyone what a slippery slope that can be. He saw it on the streets, in both his parents, in Roy’s eyes every time he finds himself craving a drink. Jason could never allow himself to take such a dumb risk.
So, Jason endures.
