The first time he had me, it was on his kitchen counter. My fingers pushed through thick, brown locks and he grunted in my ear, rutted himself into me like a dog, with his hand fisted in my hair. He growled my name, held me in a bruising grip, made me his bitch.
He looked annoyed when he served me dinner the following Saturday, as if the whole thing was a reluctant feeding at his dining table upon my request, reminiscent of a single father visited by the consequence of a one night lapse of judgment, court-ordered and etched into the calendar. He had a cigarette hanging from between his lips when he set the plate down and told me to eat, but he was the one who invited me over that night, and he was the one who insisted he’d cook.
