Summary

Krolia and Keith enter the quantum abyss to track down the enriched quintessence that created Ranveig's super weapon. They revisit old memories--both happy and painful.
Keith is forced out of the memory with a gasp. No matter how many times it’s happened, the feeling never gets any less uncomfortable. It seems to be worse when the memory he’s being booted from involves Lance, like his mind can’t bear to return to a place where Lance isn’t when he’s so real in Keith’s memories.

“You don’t want to?” Ilya’s eyes are bottomless; swimming with grief. He says it like he really means, You don’t want me?
“That isn’t what I mean,” Shane says gently, brushing his thumb over Ilya’s cheekbone. Ilya’s eyes flutter shut, as if being treated so tenderly causes him physical pain. Like he isn’t used to it. “You’re hurting. I don’t want you to regret it in the morning.”

“Please.” Came the strangled voice by his left ear. “Please, tell me.”
And who was Shane to ever deny a wish of Ilya Rozanov.
“I’m signing to Ottawa. Tomorrow. If you would want to come with.”
And then Ilya was shoving him back, holding him close to his face. “Of course. I drive. Of course I come.”
