Satoru swallows, shaking his head and finally looking away. “I’m fine,” he cleared his throat, squeezing his grip on the wrapper. “I just—” Satoru stops himself, words catching in his throat.
Ask him.
“Are you sure?” Suguru presses, shifting closer. Their shoulders bump together and Satoru flinches away, simultaneously surprising himself and Suguru. Why did he do that? Satoru looks down to where their shoulders touched, the skin fainly tingling there. Prickling. Uneasy energy bubbles in his bones. He feels like a livewire, like a string about to snap, like rope pulled too tight.
I’m going to ask him.
“Suguru…” Satoru began, hyping himself up. “You…” he shakes his head, collecting himself. Rip the bandage off, Satoru.
“You’re not the real Suguru, are you?”
