Jesse had just returned from the ice palace, and Lukas was glad he was ok. They didn't offer any information on what happened to the others but he let himself be happy for a bit that at least Jesse was ok.
He'd known them for awhile but after all the those traumatizing adventures he couldn't picture his life without them. They were just so kind and loving. Always trying to do the right thing, and along with that they were hilarious. Jesse had all these little quirks that made him love them even more. Lukas of course knew Jesse would never love him the same way though. They were just too perfect and Lukas was just Lukas.
He was surprised when Jesse had called to meet him. They seemed busy, basically running the town. He didn't know how they got that job but they did. It probably had to do with defeating the Admin.
When he got there Jesse was was standing over the different artifacts from their assorted journies. Thy were wearing their signature green suspenders and their streak of red hair glowed nicely in the torch light. They always insisted on either wearing those suspenders or theyre beige overalls. They felt as if they didn't wear one of the two items he'd die. He remembered the conversation, they were both laughing and Jesse was being jokingly dramatic, he loved the time they spent together.
"Lukas you came!" They turned to him
"Of course, I was so worried about you, and I wasn't able to see you since the ice palace and..." He was cut of before he could finish
"Lukas, I defeated the admin," their words felt heavy and the room felt stiff. "I have his powers now,"
Jesse looked at him with a small smile as if they were expecting something. Lukas was unsure what to make of this. He knew Jesse was stressed enough being the defacto mayor of the town, with being the new admin, he was concerned his responsibilities would get out of hand. What if they were to busy to see him? He could tell it was already happening. That's why he threw himself into his writing... To distract himself.
Of course that didn't work. He would write about their adventures together, and he'd dwell on those memories. And soon he'd just be thinking... Writing about Jesse.
"There's so much we could do now," they smiled. Jesse had started midly floating during Lukas' train of thought. He was over by the display part admiring what they'd collected over the years. "There's so many cool artifacts here. A real hero must've brought them,"
"Of course you brought them,"
"Right. I am a real hero," he smiled to himself, smug. "Lukas, we've been friends for awhile. I'm going to rule this pathetic town,"
Things felt... Off. It was obviously Jesse in front of him but...
"Wait what happened to Petra and the others?" Lukas asked hurriedly, cursing himself he didn't think of them sooner.
Jesse's face fell. "They left,"
"What?"
"They weren't good enough so I made them leave,"
"Why"
"But you're great right? You're worth my time,"
"Jesse I-"
"We've known eachother for awhile. Long enough for me to notice how you've felt. And I must say, I'm quite flattered," Jesse moved in closer, and placed a hand under his chin. "You and I can be together, ruling this little world as... Lovers. So, what do you say?" They whispered the last part
He couldn't believe what Jesse was saying. His Jesse. It was all he ever wanted. He loved Jesse so much. They way leaned onto him as they laughed at his silly jokes. The fact that no matter what they would always chose to help people even though they went in planning to do the exact opposite. Their bravery, cleverness, overall everything is what set them apart as this amazing beautiful person.
Lukas couldn't believe they were saying these things to him. There was no way they could see him in such away. Lukas was nothing, and he could never be- hold up! Low self esteem aside, Jesse would never act like that.
"Who are you!? Jesse could never be that smooth, they're too autistic!"
"What?" Not!Jesse looked confused.
"You heard me! There is no possible way my Jesse would act like this, and you said you left the others? Again they'd never do that,"
"Well I can't just let you live after finding my secret out,"
"Well that's interesting because- holy shit! Jesse you're back!" Lukas yelled and while the not!Jesse looked away Lukas booked it.
He wasn't sure what he could do but he knew had to do something now.
Jesse was tired. Tired of all this bullshit in their life. At least it was finally over. They were helping with the repairs, and trying to make up for what Romeo had done. They figured they'd become a hermit after this. Jesse hated the thought of facing these people again after what the town thought they did. They didn't want mess up anymore. However there was one person they couldn't leave. Lukas. They had to talk to Lukas. He must hate Jesse after all this. Sure he understood after they managed to explain it in the tower but... They still felt horrible. Jesse stopped focusing on the building in front of them for a moment and gave Lluna a few pets.
"Hey Jesse, I- I wanted to see you,"
They turned around in surprise. "I figured you'd never want to see me again,"
"What? Never! Jesse I knew that wasn't you terrorising the city,"
"How? Everyone else knew I was capable of all that. How would you be able to even think about that after I- he treated you so terribly," they were on the verge of tears again.
Somewhere within that rant they had kneeled down in sorrow. Lluna baa'ed softly and nudge their head. They couldn't take it! They felt so awfully alone! Everyone was leaving. Axel and Olivia would return to their own towns and never want to see them again. Radar was taking over as mayor, and Petra was leaving for her own adventure. They couldn't take the loss of Lukas too. The thought burned his very being.
His overthinking was cut off by a hand cupping their cheek. Lukas had kneeled down in down in front of them.
"Jesse, I knew that wasn't you because I know you'd never do anything like that. That's I love about you. You care for people. Everyone especially your friends. You'd never toss them away. Ever. Of course Romeo was a bad actor seeing as I know you as much as I do, but knowing just how kind and loving you are I couldn't ever fully believe that was you,"
They looked up and saw him in front of them through tear soaked eyes. Jesse could feel themself losing it. They'd loved Lukas for so long and somehow he always knew what to say. They cracked a small smile before lunging forward and hugging him.
"I love you," Jesse whispered.
"I love you too," Lukas whispered back. The two got up and started heading away, hand in hand. Of course Jesse quickly grabbed Lluna as they walked away.
"You know you can stay with me right? I noticed your place got destroyed. You can stay with me," Lukas said that last part twice trying to convey how he truly meant it. "Or at least until build you a new home," he didn't want to move things to fast but it was hard not to get carried away.
Jesse turned to face him and grabbed his other hand. Lluna snorted (at how cute they were together) and wandered a small distance away and sat down to wait.
"Lukas, you once said to me that 'you just want me to be happy' but that's the thing. You are my happiness. I want us to be happy together. I want us to be home together. We can build our own family, me, you, Dewy, and Lluna," they leaned forward to give him a soft peck on the lips.
"I'd like that. I'd like that a lot," he smiled.
When Jesse was with Lukas they didn't feel so alone.
