Work Text:
Zoey's life was good, even excellent. She had turtle plushies, good friends, a great job, and lots of money. Nothing could ever ruin her day.
At least, that's what she thought until, sitting on the couch, cuddling her favorite turtle stuffed animal, she saw the most horrible, terrifying, hot, and strange scene of her life: Rumi biting a chicken.
It's not like she was vegan or anything like that. No, Rumi was tearing the poor chicken skin apart with her very sharp, dangerously sexy teeth.
Teeth that looked suspiciously like the fangs of the vampires in her favorite movies she secretly reads stories about.
Zoey almost moans right there, sinfully and stupidly, because Zoey isn't alone, Rumi and Mira are on the couch with her, both of whom are her very platonic and familiar friends. Not friends with benefits, girlfriends or wives, as she would wish.
So instead, she squeezes her poor stuffed animal to death, smiles a little too broadly, and pretends she's perfectly normal after seeing those teeth.
She isn't. She absolutely isn't, and when she's able to get to her room, she locks the door, double-checks, and throws herself onto her bed, violently beating it up while screaming face down.
She falls asleep thinking about how much she wants those fangs to bite her, for Rumi to bite her.
Mira too. Both, really. She can do both of them, and not in a fight.
If only Rumi wasn't straight or something... Mira is obviously not, although she is not sure if Mira is lesbian or bisexual, either way, she would never be interested in someone like Zoey. So why does it matter?
That doesn't mean her dreams accept that fact. When she wakes up, still on top of the bed, without even having covered herself up, her panties are sticking to her thighs, and they're uncomfortably wet.
Worse still, she remembers, in small fragments, a beautiful dream where she was in this same bed, sitting on Mira's lap, who was kissing one side of her neck, and Rumi was biting the other side, making her bleed.
She is really disappointed when she goes to the bathroom to shower, and sees her neck clean and spotless.
But she doesn't say anything, just sighs, and jots down the dream as best she can. It's not until she leaves her room towards the kitchen, with a forced smile, that she realizes an important fact.
No human should have teeth as sharp as Rumi.
Which means...
That Rumi a werewolf!?
Wait, no, werewolves don't exist...as far as she knows. She still has to prove it.
What does exist are demons. Demons with horns and fangs, but...there's no way, right?
"Zoey? Are you okay?"
"Y-yeah! I just had a weird dream last night." Zoey ran her tongue over her teeth; Rumi's, in theory, wouldn't feel like hers.
So... Rumi was a demon? But how? She'd sold her soul to Gwi-Ma and never told them? No, they would have noticed, and if not, Celine would have known. Then, was it a curse? Or...
Zoey froze.
Was she born with it?
That... would explain a lot of things, really, like her unfair attractiveness, her long hair and hairstyle (no human can deal with that much hair!) and how she always hides under her clothes.
Does that mean Rumi might want to go to the Bathhouse, but is afraid of exposing herself?
Oh, she hopes so. Not that she's scared (although Rumi definitely must be, otherwise she would have told them by now), but that Rumi wants to go with them, and simply can't. So the three of them could go out together and have fun! But if that happens, Zoey could die. She's not ready to be with Mira and Rumi's very naked, muscular bodies.
Although Rumi should tell them first for that to happen, which, given that she hasn't done it in all these years, won't be anytime soon.
Oh well, Zoey can handle that. She doesn't like the idea of exposing her secret, but it will only be to Mira, and no one else. Besides, as Rumi's friends and also Hunters, it is their duty to assure her that they will NEVER hurt her.
Unless Rumi asks them to.
Oh shit, bad Zoey, behave yourself, that's your friend!
"Zoey." Mira began, her eyebrows slightly furrowed as she leaned against the kitchen counter, holding her coffee mug. Having just woken up, she had no right to look so sexy. Maybe she wasn't human either, that would explain it. "You've been sitting still and silent for too long, are you okay?"
Zoey smiled. Mira is so adorable when she's worried, but she doesn't want to show it.
"I am!" Zoey stretched her arms above her head. "But I realized Rumi is a demon."
Mira, who had decided to take a sip of coffee at that exact moment, choked.
This isn't what Zoey meant when she said she wanted to choke Mira.
"Rumi is a what?"
"A demon!" Zoey smiled, though Mira, very smart and wise, would know it was fake. "I figured it out last night. She has fangs."
"Rumi has...fangs." Mira repeats, frowning, and wiped the coffee on her lips with the back of her hand. Zoey would love to be that coffee. She's wanted to know what Mira's lips feel like for years. "Are you sure?"
"As sure as I am that I love turtles."
"Ok..." Mira put her mug on the counter, rubbing her forehead. "You know what? I'm going to find out right now if you're right or wrong."
"What?"
Mira moved forward. "If you're right, which I think you are, we're in for a long conversation about this. And if you're not, we'll laugh about this someday."
Zoey followed her, wide-eyed, into Rumi's room.
"Are you going to ask her right now?
"Yes." Carefully, she turned the handle and walked in. Inside, Rumi, already awake, was sitting on her bed, apparently writing something, judging by the pencil and notebook on the bed. Rumi barely had time to open her mouth before Mira attacked. "Rumi, are you a demon?"
"What?" Rumi smiled, one of those smiles she gave them when she'd done something they didn't like, and laughed. "A demon? Me? No."
"Rumi." Zoey gave her a smile that she hoped was kind and not, you know, hungry. "We know, and we're okay with it. It doesn't change how much we love you."
Actually, it did change, but simply because Zoey now loved more parts of Rumi.
"Really?"
Mira, whose face didn't betray at all that she had just found out that her best friend was a demon less than a second ago, nodded.
"We will always love you, Rumi." Honestly, it was admirable how quickly she had reacted, Zoey had had all night, and she wasn't that composed. "It's offensive that you think otherwise."
"Oh." Rumi laughed nervously, patting the bed. Neither Zoey nor Mira hesitated to sit next to her, their backs against the wall, and their sides pressed together. "How did you know?"
"You have fangs." Her voice came out embarrassingly high-pitched. Hopefully, they just thought it was Zoey being Zoey, and not something more. "And they're very pretty."
"Oh God, please tell me your werewolf obsession isn't coming back. It's been three years, Zoey."
"It's not like that! I'm not obsessed with werewolves anymore, just...Rumi and you."
"That sounds a little gay." Rumi joked, her fangs showing as she laughed.
Zoey didn't even think about her answer.
"For you? I am."
Rumi, demonstrating her singing skills, made a high-pitched sound similar to that of a teapot, while her face turned completely red.
Still, she looked gorgeous. Like a goddess.
"Let's be honest, all three of us are gay for each other." Mira, always direct, just smiled. Zoey wanted to kiss her very much. And more. And apparently she could? "Just no one had said it out loud until now."
"I, well..." Rumi stammered, her voice shaking, and her eyes wide open. "Yes."
"So we are girlfriends?"
"I'd say we have been for years. Why do you think 'Polytrix' is such a popular tag with our fans?"
Maybe Rumi was dying. No one should reach that level of red. Or that high pitch. Although since she was a demon, technically she could?
"Would you please stop giving me a cardiac arrest every five seconds?" She pleaded, blinking rapidly. "Give me...a minute, or ten, I need to process."
"Of course! And then we can kiss."
Mira just laughed as another muffled moan escaped from Rumi, who was no longer looking into any of their eyes.
"Kiss or get bitten, Zoey? Because I know how much that idea excites you."
"Oh god girls stop you're going to kill me!"
