Summary
It’s the summer of 1985 and Eddie Munson is trying to stay out of trouble for once.
Okay, maybe he’s visiting the new mall more than strictly necessary so he can see a certain sailor at Scoops Ahoy but that’s his own damn business, thank you very much.
Imagine Eddie’s surprise when the hot jock he’s been crushing on turns out to be…kind of a good dude? Becoming friends with Steve Harrington goes against every tenet of the Munson Doctrine, but before Eddie can really get to know this new and exciting version of King Steve, he comes face to face with what’s lurking under Starcourt Mall. And emerges from the experience a lot smaller. And furrier.
Steve Harrington has resigned himself to his fate as a babysitter to a group of middle schoolers, but when he comes across a tiny bat with a wonky wing he’s not so sure if he wants to offer up his caregiving services to the furry creature, especially not when Robin insists that it probably, maybe, definitely has rabies. Steve finds himself quickly charmed by the little thing, especially when it looks at him so intently with those brown eyes that seem weirdly familiar.Of course, in Hawkins, it would be weirder if there wasn't something extra-dimensional going on.

Summary
All Eddie wants is a genuine buzz, from anything. A beer. A blunt. But he can't.
He's been a recluse since Chrissy Cunningham overdosed. And why wouldn't he be? He sold her the drugs that did it, after all. Or at least, that’s what the town of Hawkins seems to believe. His guilt hasn't let him so much as touch a case of beer at the grocery store in months, forcing him into a state of unwilling sobriety and bitter depression.
He finds an outlet for his anguish within Steve Harrington, one of the only people left in town that believes in his innocence.
Of course, that's because Steve happens to be carrying around some secrets of his own.

Summary
Eddie Munson had lived through monsters before — real ones, with teeth and claws and a taste for blood. What he hadn’t prepared for was this: the way Steve Harrington kept pulling him into late-night conversations and half-lit car rides, like Eddie was supposed to know what to do with a heart that never stopped bruising.
It was supposed to be nothing. A slip, a laugh, a kiss that didn’t mean anything. Except Steve kept coming back, and Eddie kept letting him. Indiana still spat the same slurs, the newspapers still screamed about a plague in cities far away, and Eddie still knew better than to hope.
But hope had a habit of sneaking in anyway... tucked in the way Steve looked at him when he thought nobody else was watching.

Or: Eddie survived bats, Vecna, and Hawkins. What finally killed him was Steve “definitely straight, except when he isn’t” Harrington and his goddamn smile.

Summary
It was easy, letting go. At least, that’s what Eddie told himself as he watched Hawkins fade to a tiny smudge on the horizon, his whole life packed into the van and Wayne’s old truck as they fled the Indiana tree line for the high mountain valleys of Idaho. Amidst the hot, dry air and sweet sagebrush, Eddie’s mind wandered, crawling back night after night under a blanket of stars to the golden boy he left behind and the chasm in his chest that used to house his heart — whistling and waiting, a near eternal ache.
Home came together slowly, and then all at once when Steve Harrington showed up on his doorstep a year later — haggard and worn, searching for something among the wildflowers.

Summary
The Wizard Munson is supposed to inspire fear and awe. A trickster, a devil, a power unmatched.
Blah blah blah; Steve only sees the gangly boy who almost fell off the roof of the Harrington’s tailoring shop, trying and failing to be stealthy and mysterious when Steve was not yet ten—so where whispers follow down alleyways about the dreaded terrors of the Wizard?
Steve really just sees the goofball. His Eddie.
“Come with me, Stevie,” Eddie doesn’t even pause for pleading, dives right in and begs him as if Steve needs convincing; "if nothing else, come with me so I know you’re safe, so I can do what needs doing without splitting half of me always just worrying. Save me from scrying out endlessly, to make sure you’re okay.”
Steve’s heart thumps painful, pathetic: pure and unvarnished in a way he thinks is only possible when Eddie’s nearby. Only possible for Eddie, at all.
Which means the answer’s wholly obvious—the war’s getting worse, this is his Eddie—only one response was ever really on the table:
“Alright.”
