Then, like a puppet with his strings cut—a sight Deidara is all too familiar with after his years partnered with Sasori—Tobi drops in the middle of the road.

During the final battle, Obito accidentally travels back in time to when he was posing as "Tobi" and partnered with Deidara. Semi-reformed and with a new perspective on the world, he's not going to waste this chance to stop the oncoming devastation before it can happen. Even if it means ruining all his old plans.
