Where did the days go when the kids didn't look beat down? When they weren't worrying and arguing? Steve wasn't so sure, but he knew that the deaths of Billy and Eddie had brought this decay with them. A slow, creeping sort of rot to their friendships, and Steve hated every second of it. He hated the wall around Hawkins, not being able to leave, and most of all, he hated the feeling of being watched.
Whatever had come for them before. It was still out there, growing stronger. Growing stronger with Billy and Eddie at its side.

Then Nancy Wheeler told him he was bullshit. In the wreckage of the storm, he realized she probably hadn’t been that off base to call his life bullshit.
